The Pedestrian Shops to Consolidate Boulder Locations This Fall
Longtime Village Shopping Center location to close as operations focus on flagship Pearl Street store
Pedestrian Shops is making a big move—but not going far. This fall, the locally owned, family-run business will consolidate its two Boulder locations into one, operating exclusively out of its flagship store on the Pearl Street Mall. The Village Shopping Center location, which has served customers for over 35 years, will close in October. The exact closure date will be shared in the coming months. The Pearl Street and Village stores are a mere 1.2 miles from each other.
“We’ve loved being part of the Village community since the 1980s,” said Richard Polk, president of Pedestrian Shops. “It’s been a special place for us—a community center with great people and great energy. We’ll definitely miss it and look forward to seeing which business makes our Village shop it’s home next.”
The decision to consolidate reflects the store’s ongoing commitment to offering the best possible service and selection to its customers. “By focusing on our Pearl Street location, we’ll be able to expand our inventory keeping more sizes and styles in stock,” added Lauren Polk Brown, Executive vice president of Pedestrian Shops. “And we’ll continue to make it easy for customers to shop with us by offering complimentary parking validation and other accommodations.”
All current staff members will be retained during this transition. There will be no layoffs.
“We understand that coming downtown doesn’t always feel convenient—but I promise it’s worth the effort. Not just to shop at our store, but to explore the other shops and restaurants that make Pearl Street so special,” said Zoe Polk Francis, Vice-president of operations at Pedestrian Shops. “Downtown Boulder is the heart of this city. It’s where we started, and it really reflects the personality of our store—laid-back, vibrant, and rooted in community. We love being in a place where people walk, connect, and enjoy the outdoors. We’re proud to be part of it, and we hope our Village customers will come visit us on Pearl Street and continue to be part of our story.”
Pedestrian Shops’ Denver location adjacent to REI at 15th Street and Platte will remain open and continue to serve the growing LoHi community.
